About the Event
Sicilia (Sicily) is an Italian island near the country's "boot", but it has a diverse history. Its cuisine is similar to Italian fare, but also reflects traces of Spanish, French, Greek and Arab influences, as those cultures inhabited the island over the course of a few thousand years.
Sicilian meals often include an antipasti to start, and a main dish pasta along with a second main course of meat or fish. Sicilia also is known for its sweets including cannoli, also known among Sicilians as cannolu.
Winemaking has been part of the landscape of the island since the 8th century BCE, starting with the Greeks who arrived on the island and, later, Phoenicians and Romans. Its diverse winemaking heritage is steeped in the heritage of "old vines" - demonstrating the biodiversity of the island.
